"what are you gonna do..."?

There comes a point in every young folks life where the reality catches up with the story.

To make sure your story doesn’t give you a solid whomping when it catches up with you, try making your story as close to reality as possible.

Let’s take a job application as an example:

You fill in the application to make yourself sound fantastic – you’ve done great things, you’re clearly the most qualified person for the job. You then come to the part where you need to put a referees name down. This is a dicey game – you choose someone who will give you a good and honest reference but perhaps it may not match exactly what you wrote in your application. Alternatively, you choose someone who will make you sound even better than you described yourself. The first person probably has a life that runs pretty close to the story they tell others about themselves. The second person probably has a story that is completely at odds with their life and when their story catches up with them they better be sitting down.

So, my question is…

How do you make you life an interesting story and have witnesses to back it up word for word?

My ideas so far…
· Don’t give people around you any evidence that is contrary to what you tell them
· Spend all your time doing extremely interesting things and ignoring the mundane
· Learn to write and speak in a way that is engaging and credible.

Each has its challenges and benefits but I don’t think they can be viewed as singular answers.

So, I guess I need to follow this with a statement…

I think you need to do things that are of interest to you and to some degree exclude things that are uninteresting from your life. Experience these things with other people and keep good records and you are doing well. However, I think it is important to occasionally do things that may not seem so interesting as these experiences sometimes can provide unexpected opportunities.

Here is a man truly grasping at life's big questions. Well, when life has just won a wet t-shirt competition, wouldn't you? Oh man, I gotta get me some life.

Live your life man, that's all there is, there's really nothing else. Life is the only wealth, except for Alf Tazos.
